Partie centrale (# R 875; # E. 320) : 248 x 114 mm, japon à moyennes marges (349 x 273 mm) (volant).
Partie extérieure (# R. 970; # E. 319) : 390 x 280 mm, japon à moyennes marges (507 x 350 mm, bord inf. replié) (volant). Sous passe-partout.
La partie extérieure est dédicacée à la pointe dans le champ à droite "[...] à mon vieux copain Victor de la Hesbaye, goutteux très précieux de S.M. le Roi des Belges".
Rare épreuve : la partie centrale est monogrammée au crayon rouge dans le champ à dr., et la partie extérieure porte une dédicace autographe à la mine de graphite sous la cuvette : "Dédié à Mr Victor Hallaux/ Goutteux très précieux & de S.M. le/ Roi des Belges.// F. Rops// Belge libéré".
Rops a également dédicacé et légendé les saynètes d'une autre épreuve de cette même planche à Victor Hallaux (# de Sadeleer, v.p. Simonson, Brux., 1987, n° 133).
Victor de la Hesbaye, dit Victor Hovin, et en réalité Victor Hallaux (Marche-les-Dames 1833-1896 Bruxelles), a fondé avec son ami Rops en 1856 l'"Uylenspiegel". En 1868, il fonde et dirige pendant de longues années le journal bruxellois "La Chronique". Ce quotidien progressiste fut aux côtés de l'éditeur Kistemaeckers durant tous ses combats, procès et autres démêlés judiciaires et politiques et c'est chez cet éditeur remarquable que Hallaux publia en 1890 son ouvrage "A Naples. Notes familières", illustré par Franz Gailliard, père de Jean-Jacques. Il a aussi collaboré aux quotidiens bruxellois l'"Etoile belge" et l'"Indépendance belge". C'était un vrai et excellent journaliste; il a présidé leur association (section bruxelloise de l'Ass. Gén. de la Presse belge: A.G.P.B.) de 1888 à 1892, puis fut leur président d'honneur de 1892 à 95. Pour ces notes sur Hallaux, nous remercions René Fayt, conservateur de la Réserve Précieuse de l'Univ. Libre de Bruxelles et fin spécialiste de l'édition clandestine au XIXe s. en Belgique.
3e état (sur 3) pour la partie centrale et 2e état (sur 3 ou 4 : avant la dédicace à Hallaux gravée dans le champ en bas à dr. et avant certains travaux à la pointe sèche) pour la partie extérieure.
Rare avec les 2 parties volantes et doublement dédicacée à Victor Hallaux.

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 (EUR) will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 (EUR) or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Ero's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
