(1858 - 1919) Twenty-sixth President of the United States who started the Panama Canal, settled the Russo-Japanese War, broke up Standard Oil and encouraged conservation. A neat Roosevelt item, a handsome copper high-relief plaque by A. H. Sunder showing the President in side profile, 7 1/2"" x 12"", with an excerpt from his famous speech before the Hamilton Club, Apr. 10, 1899 beneath, in part: ""... I wish to preach not the doctrine of ignoble ease but the doctrine of strenuous life, the life of toil and effort, of labor and strife..."". Set on a heavy oak backplate, overall dimensions 12"" x 16"". A small vertical crack to the backplate at top margin, otherwise in very good condition, and great for display.
