<td width="100%">
Very early Demonstration Rookwood art pottery ewer signed by artist decorator E.D.F Emma D. Foertmeyer, (who worked for Rookwood 1887 - 1895).

Measures:5 3/4inches high.

Outstanding little ewer: Full-bodied round shape with sturdy cylindrical neck flaring to a ruffled rim. Curvaceous handle, scrolling outwards at the bottom below the attachment to the body - like the gesture of an elegant arm. The ground colour is a golden mustard flowing into sunset orange/red in parts and green in others. The surface is richly painted and enamel decorated with flowers ( chrysanthemums ) and foliage, quite superbly done with very fine detail, subtle colour relations and a raised, almost relief-sculptural effect in parts. Stems, leaves and flowers all show a strong Japanese influence in design and subject matter. Glaze is particularly bright and clear.

Marks: A number of impressed marks:Rookwood mark with 4 flames for 1890. Shape #40; S - indicating a piece thrown for demonstration purposes, probably for a prominent visitor; incised L.Y. which was the potter's instruction to glaze the body LIght Yellow.

Condition is very good. No chips/cracks/crazing/restoration.
