RONALD REAGAN
(1911 - 2004) Fortieth President of the United States who served for two terms (1981-1989) and contributed to the fall of European Communism. T.L.S. "Ron" on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Los Angeles, Nov. 11, 1975 to AP reporter, spy and intelligence expert John Koeller. Nice content concerning his decision to run, in part: "...I'll announce my decision and must say I'm a long way down the road to the answer you recommended. I'm very disturbed, as I'm sure yo are, by the recent happenings in the Department of Defense. If and when the word is given, I'll be very proud to have your support...". Small stain in one corner, else very good. Reagan was likely referring to the efforts of Ford's new Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld oversaw the transition to an all-volunteer military, and sought to reverse the gradual decline in the defense budget, and undermine Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at the SALT talks.
