Original posters from the country of origin for this historic film are rare. This particular poster was printed for the film's initial 1945 release in Italy and showcases the silhouette of a German soldier looming over the cast members Anna Magnani and Aldo Fabrizi.

The poster has undergone professional restoration to remedy slight paper loss, border wear, and fold damage and to repair minor tears. It now appears exquisite, with its subdued color scheme adding a dramatic flair.

Rome was declared an open city by the German Army following the significant Allied offensives in early 1944, leading to no resistance against the Allied Forces, which is reflected in the title of this pioneering and historic film. However, the film portrays the harsh Nazi occupation and the valiant Italian resistance. Filmed shortly after the liberation of the city, while German forces still lingered in the streets, Roberto Rossellini had to film amidst the war's rubble and turmoil. This movie marked the inception of the great Italian Neorealist film movement, which gained international recognition and remains a subject of study today.
