They were collected together c. 1500 by Jean Choppuis, the Parisian Canonist, under the title Corpus Juris Canonici & remained the standard legal work till the Codex Juris Canonici of 1918ALSO WITH THIS LOT: VAN ESPEN ( Zeger Bernhard ). Tractatus historico-canonicus exhibens scholia in omnes canones conciliorum, tam Graecos, quam Latinos, unanimi utriusque ecclesiae Graece & Latinae consensu probatos … Rothomagi, sumtibus Guillelmi Behourt, 1710. Pages (16), 582, (12), 4to, contemporary calf, fully gilt spine : with just a little wear at the headbands but the binding still strong and attractive and otherwise a very good copy.Van Espen (1646-1728), Belgian canonist. His comprehensive knowledge of canon law made him a much consulted adviser of princes and bishops and his works remain remarkable for their learning and lucidity.
