<b>1009. KONSTANTIN K. ROKOSSOVSKY</b> (1896 - 1968) Soviet general who held the critical northwest approaches to Moscow, later headed defenses at Stalingrad and near the end of the war encircled and destroyed the German 4th Army. Fine content A.Ms.S., 3pp. 4to., [n.p.], Dec. 25, 1967 replying to several typed questions put to him. The marshal's initial responses concern biographical information in which he states that he had served in World War I, later joining the Red Guards and heading a cavalry brigade. He was activated in the earliest days of the October Revolution, serving in Siberia and Baikal, eventually rising in rank to command an army at the front. Rokossovsky attributes his advancement to his maintaining good relations with his superiors, carefully presenting information, and serving with distinction at the front.
