ROBERT WOOD (1889-1979)
Untitled Buckeye Painting, late 1920s
Oil on artist board
16in. x 32in.
Signed lower left

Referred to as a Robert Wood "Buckeye" painting, this fine early example is emblematic of Robert Wood's early painting style. It comes from the collection of Sue Wisnoski, whose parents took Robert Wood as a boarder in their home when Wood first arrived in San Antonio. Robert Wood gave the painting to her parents as partial payment for rent. The painting was unsigned for many years (as most from this period), but on November 3, 1976, Sue made arrangements to meet the then eighty-seven-year-old Robert Wood at his daughter's gallery (Violet Sigoloff) in San Antonio and have him sign the painting. There are five photographs included with this lot of Robert Wood signing the painting. Also included is a letter and appraisal by Ms. Sigoloff attesting to the painting's authenticity.

This is a rare opportunity to own one of the few signed and fully documented early Robert Wood paintings in existence.

Provenance:
Acquired by descent from the artist by the present owner

Condition Report: Excellent original condition with no restorations.
