Wood" signature.<BR><BR>This painting was a retirement present to the current owner's father, who was a chaplin at Fort Bliss, from the men of the army base. When he was asked what he would like for a memento of his service to the base, he said he would like a painting to remember the area. This wonderful view of the Chihuahuan Desert, and the stunning edifice of the mountain rising abruptly from desert floor, was selected.<BR><BR>In a letter from Florence Wood dated October 3, 1981 (included with the painting), she states "I certify this 25 x 30 'El Capitan' painting is an original oil painted by my father Robert Wood, circa 1935. He made many trips between Texas and California through the Big Bend country. The coloring in this painting is beautiful in its contrasts of different shades, lights, and shadows."<BR><BR>Provenance:<BR>Acquired by descent from the artist by the present owner<BR><BR> <B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent condition on original canvas with no restorations.
