Wood" signature. It was likely painted on one of Wood's treks out west, which often times involved hopping freight trains or trading paintings for food, lodging, or transportation. He was exploring and painting the great American West as Bierstadt and Moran had done fifty years earlier.<BR><BR>It is unfair to view this painting with eyes that do not compensate for the yellowed varnish on its surface; only then will the viewer realize the drama in the clouds, and the vibrant colors hiding behind accumulated grime and yellowed varnish.<B>Condition Report:</B> Excellent original condition. No restorations. Three minor losses due to scratches or abrasions. Painting has yellow varnish and will brighten considerably with a light surface cleaning.
