ROBERT WILLIAMS WOOD
(1868 - 1955) American physicist and inventor cited as being a pivotal contributor to the field of optics and is best known for giving birth to the so-called "black-light effect". Offbeat A.L.S. on his Johns Hopkins letterhead, 1p. 4to., Baltimore [n.d.] discussing his whimsical book How to Tell the Birds From the Flowers, where it may be purchased, and offering to sign first editions. Also present is a copy of the book, (Paul Elder & Co.:San Francisco), 1907, first edition, signed in full by Williams on the front flyleaf and dated Baltimore, Jan. 20, 1952, all beneath a gift inscription from a previous owner. Some toning t cover, else very good.
