ALS, 2pp (single sheet), April 23, 1954, 4to, from Alcatraz, to his sister Mamie Stroud, on lightly lined paper, interesting content re his early life. In small part, "...I am feeling pretty good the last few weeks...just before my 5th birthday, I remember the scene very well, the old man came running into the room and snatched the blanket off the bed...and Mother was rolling on the ground with the screaming man, and you came and kept trying to make us look at the pretty christmas tree. I think you were right to first lie about his name, for that man Miller sounds right...three years after that, I remember that day too...from the time you got me up...off to school...you went to sleep crying..."
