<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Thirty words in seven lines, a draft portion of early ALS “<i>R E Lee</i>,” 4½"x2½", n.p., ca 1861. As military adviser to Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Lee sets Virginia troops on a war footing. He writes, apparently referencing troop training, “<i>which are generally taken... among the experienced Sts</i> [States]: <i>The above is the rule. Among</i> [vo]<i>lunteer troops, greater attention is</i> [req]<i>uired than with disciplined troops...their muster & an Inspt. officer may</i> [be] <i>necessary</i>…” Boldly penned and signed in brown ink. Last five lines have been encircled and crossed out, touching a portion of Lee’s signature. Handsomely matted between color lithograph and descriptive text. Contained under glass within ornate gilt frame. Overall 27"x15".

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
