John Letcher of Virginia rejecting the governor’s offer to sell land to Lee’s beloved Washington College. In part, “<i>My Dear Gov’r—The offer which I made you for your lot, was authorized by the Committee of the board of Trustees. Upon their rec’g your answer through Col. McLaughlin, as I understood, they declined to purchase...though willing to give the price offered through me, they do not consider the ground of sufficient importance to the College to justify them in giving the amount you ask...should any change in their opinion have taken place on the subject, will let you know.</i>..” Boldly penned and signed. 11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
