(5:23 pm illustrated twice) The Golden Gate bridge, a symbol of American industrial triumph, has been photographed since it was constructed as the longest and highest single span in the world. The Golden Gate photographs that Misrach has created focus on the surroundings of the bridge and their relationship to the permanence of this landmark. Misrach uses the camera as a clock, recording time and the changes in the natural elements while the bridge stands still and solid in each photograph. Misrach titles each work according to the date, hour and minute of the shot, so that each piece is seen individually. Misrach records the sunrise here at exactly 5:22 a.m.
