Vice President of the United States under Martin Van Buren (1837-41), the only Vice President to have been elected by the Senate when there was no majority in the electoral college. He was a member of the US Congress and Senate from Kentucky. ALS “<i>Richard Johnson</i>” twice as KY Representative, 1p, small 4to, Washington, May 29, 1809. To Secretary of the Navy Paul Hamilton recommending Dr. Thomas Barbour of Virginia as “<i>a Surgeon Master or if no appointment of that kind is vacant, he will accept </i>[one]<i> of the place of Lieutenant in the Marine Corps</i>...” In a holograph postscript, he notes that this request was made to him by Colonel James Barbour, whose letter he encloses [not present]. Boldly penned and signed beneath letter and again after postscript. Signed also by <b><font size=-1>J. Dawson</font></b> and <b><font size=-1>B. Howard</font></b>. Light general toning; o/w VG.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
