Original manuscript by English-born American historian HENRY BARTON DAWSON (1821-1889) noted for his works relating to the Revolutionary War and the Founding Fathers; editor of pro-temperance The Crystal Font and Rechabite Recorder. Most noted among his works is his two-volume Battles of the United States by Sea and Land (1858), published in serial form and a controversial 1863 edition of The Federalist. He also contributed manuscript Westchester County, New York during the American Revolution" in J.T. Scharf's History of Westchester County (1886). Autograph manuscript, unsigned, 15pp, 9¾ x12½ , Johnson Fry, New York, ca. 1858 . Chapter 1, April. 1775 for his scholarly and comprehensive history, Battles of the United States, Embracing Those of the Revolutionary and Indian Wars, The War of 1812, and the Mexican War; with Important Official Documents titled Lexington and Concord at top margin. Bold and neatly penned in black ink with footnotes penned at right margin in red ink. The manuscript is incomplete. The last page corresponds with page 21 in the book, just before Dawson presents his Documentation of the battles. It is in remarkable condition and quite probably a unique artifact of a notable history still in print today. Also included is his original copyright documentation, with transmittal envelope, signed by the Librarian of Congress certifying his manuscript Westchester County, New York, during The American Revolution by Henry B. Dawson, Morrisania, New York City, 1886. Blind stamp affixed. No. 18363 R. Fine condition.
