Cal. 44 Remington CF. S#. 383, on inside of grip frame. Bbl. 7 1/2" round with webbed ejector housing. Fluted 6 shot cyl. 2 piece walnut grips. The left panel has carved marking that Wendell Grangaard believes to be "Togia", plains indian markings. Approx. 25,000-30,000 mfg. 1875-1890. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: letter from Wendell Grangaard, author of the book "Documenting the Weapons Used at the Little Bighorn". In his letter Wendell says he believes this to be one of the revolvers issued at the Standing Rock Reservation based on the marking on the grips. He also believes it was used by 2 reservation police officers, Looking Elk & Good Voice Elk. CONDITION: metal has a faded gray appearance showing scattered light pitting & handling marks. Grips show heavy wear with chips at butt & a small added wood repair at the toe of the left panel. Left panel retains lightly visible markings. The action has slightly slow timing. Dark lightly pitted bore retains intact rifling. (01-27896/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
