RELICS FROM A STRATOSPHERE BALLOON FLIGHT. This lot includes several relics (small pieces) from the National Geographic Stratospheric Balloon flight in July 1934, including a piece of rope, insulation from the batteries, lead sheathing from the radio cables and ballast. Also with this lot are the 2 National Geographic magazines which describe the planned flight (Vol. LXV, No. 4, April 1934) and the success/fate of the flight (Vol. LXVII, No. 2, Feb. 1935). The latter volume also describes the "relic hunters" who cleaned up the crash area near Loomis, Nebraska, thereby preventing complete reconstruction of the ill-fated balloon and a full determination of the causes of its explosion and crash. Magazines in excellent condition. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 6:00-7:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
