RIFLE. Cal. 50-70. S# Unknown. Bbl. 36 5/8". Mfg. 1866 as Allin conversion of Model 1863 percussion musket utilizing brazed in barrel liner. Distinctive triple barrel band (with springs) stock retaining original 1863 flip up sight. Normally (no visible markings) with "1866" over American eagle on breech block having Civil War lock with Springfield markings to include 1863 or 1864 date. Often referred to as Second Model Allin Trapdoor; only 25,000 made. CONDITION: very poor cleaned condition with extensive corrosion having a wrought iron appearance. Battlefield abandoned due to failure of its ammo as it had a fired casing and bullet stuck in its bore. Rod was used to penetrate the obstruction and eject the casing. Light can be seen through the bore. Not salvageable for use, but would make a great "wall hanger" (suitable for decoration only). Hammer will move and breech block will open, but will not cock and firing pin is rusted into a protruding position. Prior attempt was made to loosen the lock mounting screws and enhance their slots (to no avail). Chip in stock by left side of tang plus missing buttplate assembly. (01-27360/NW). ANTIQUE. $150-300.
