REICHSCHANCELLERY BOOKPLATES
Group of four unused ex-libris bookplates, each 2 1/2" x 3 1/2", removed from the Reichs Chancellery in Berlin. Each bears the legend: "Bucherei der Reichskanzlei" ("Library of the Reichs Chancellery"), beneath an eagle and swastika. The plates are made from embossed gilded card, with gummed backs. Each plate bears some degree of damage, from minor scratches and creases to loss of gilding and speckling from exposure to water. Good. Our consignor's father was the chief of staff, American Headquarters, Berlin Air Command from June to August, 1945. During this period, he had the opportunity to "liberate" several volumes and other items from the Reichschancellery, specifically Hitler's offices and those adjoining. This example is one of those items. With a copy of the consignor's notarized letter of provenance.
