REGIMENTALLY MARKED EARLY THIRD MODEL BROWN BESS

MUSKET. Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 38 3/4", has British proofs at rear. Lock w/ rounded plate, integral pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ duck bill finial. Lock stamped "SEARLES". Early style hand rail stock w/ raised platform around bbl. tang & palm swell extends to w/in 4" of muzzle & is pinned to bbl. Transitional brass mountings are of rounded style; ramrod pipes w/ flared entrances. Buttplate tang marked "7-W-I-Rrt" (7th West Indies Regiment?). Butt is also marked w/ rack number "B/49". CONDITION: bbl. cleaned to bright showing fairly deep dark pitting. Touch hole appears to be original. Lock w/ original pan, cock & feather spring has had frizzen replaced along w/ cock screw, top jaw & screw. Lock does not mate properly to bbl. Wood has old surfaces w/ repairs at right side of trigger guard. Front 20" of stock is replaced. Sling loops are present along w/ replacement ramrod. Lock is operable. Pitted bore.
