REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE

Six Sheet (79" x 81")
Very Fine- on Linen
Warner Bros., 1955

Just a month before the film hit theaters, James Dean died in an auto accident. The man who gave new meaning to "live fast, die young" became a silver screen immortal, and the legend continues to grow to this day. This poster captures his rebellious spirit with his back turned on society in a larger-than-life pose. If there's one poster of Dean to own, this is surely it.

The poster has been professionally restored to fix pinholes in the corners and minor paper loss along the fold lines on the left side against the blue background. Light color touch-ups have also been applied to the folds. Apart from these small signs of handling, this poster is an outstanding example from the 1950s.

The title alone summed up a generation of youth without direction, and their patron saint was James Dean. Dean rose to stardom in East of Eden the previous year, depicting a young man searching for direction and acceptance. With Rebel without a Cause, Dean, Natalie Wood, and Sal Mineo solidified the persona of misunderstood youth and became the idols and symbols of teens across America.
