RAYNAL, Guillaume-Thomas.- Histoire philosophique et politique des établissements et du commerce des Européens dans les deux Indes. Genève, Jean-Léonard Pellet, 1780. 10 vol. in-8° : 10 frontispices et 23 tableaux dépliants (inc. de l'atlas, int. très frais). Rel. de l'époque : plein veau blond, double filet doré sur les plats, dos fleuronnés dorés à nerfs, tr. marbrées (rel. frottées, coins émoussés, coiffes +/- faibles, mors +/- fendillés ou fendus). Première édition avec le nom de l'auteur et meilleure édition, avec celle parue chez le même la même année en in-4°, car plus complète et mise au point avec la participation de Raynal en personne. C'est aussi dans cette édition que Diderot s'impliquera le plus. Divisé en 19 livres en 10 tomes illustrés chacun d'un frontispice gravé d'après Moreau le jeune et contenant 23 tableaux dépliants (parfois de grande dimension) donnant les chiffres du commerce de diverses métropoles européennes (Espagne, France, Angleterre... ) et de leurs colonies.Important dans l'histoire des idées au XVIIIe s., cet ouvrage connut de très nombreuses rééditions (avec des changements et une radicalisation progressive), émissions, contrefaçons... entre sa parution anonyme en 1770 et la fin du siècle, et des tirages allant jusqu'à 25.000 ex. Cette histoire de la colonisation et des puissances commerçantes depuis les origines jusqu'aux derniers événements du XVIIIe s. fut conçue pour comprendre les conséquences économiques et politiques de la Guerre de Sept ans et prêche la collaboration commerciale des pays mais sans les abus du colonialisme et de l'esclavage.# Diderot et son temps. After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 3.000 BEF will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 7.000 BEF or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Belgian francs (BEF).
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 50.000 BEF.
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
