Prolific Los Angeles-based mystery novelist whose hard-boiled “tough guy” prose and intricate plotting—not to mention his detective Philip Marlowe - spawned a generation of similar writers and film noir classics from Hollywood. His novels include <i>The Big Sleep</i> (1939) and <i>The Lady in the Lake</i> (1943). Turning to movies, he also wrote the screenplays for <i>Double Indemnity</i> (1944) and <i>Blue Dahlia</i> (1946). TDS, 1p, 4to, Hollywood, Nov 15, 1943. On Paramount Pictures watermarked onionskin paper, in full, “<i>This will confirm our understanding that pursuant to your request your employment agreement with the undersigned corporation dated May 12, 1943 is hereby terminated as of November 15, 1943, at the end of said day</i>.” Boldly signed, referring to his adaptation of James Cain’s novel, <i>Double Indemnity</i> for Paramount. invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
