This is a one-of-a-kind Phoenix Rising plate in the limited edition FLAME color glaze. It is dated 12-19-85 and signed under final-glaze in magic marker by the designer, Joniece Frank as a Christmas gift to employee Dulcie Long for her part in the restoration of the pottery plant after a disastrous fire in 1983. The molded lettering says: 1st EDITION copyright J.F. 1985-FRANKOMA (on the lower outer edge) & at the top it says "THE PHOENIX was a mythical bird who lived 500 years. At the end of it's life cycle, it sacrificed itself on an alter of fire only to be born again rising from the ashes more beautful than before." and is signed in cursive in the mold, Joniece Frank (and then has her JFNK symbol below that). And then in magic marker (under the final coat of clear glaze) it says in her own handwriting: To Dulcie Long. Thank you for you, and for your part in keeping Frankoma alive. Lot's of love, Joniece (JF) 12-19-85 There are two holes punched into the base stand of the plate so a heavy string or wire could be used to hang it on the wall. The front of the plate is embossed with a Phoenix Bird rising up out of the many flames. Upon very close examination I've discovered a tiny chip in the glaze on the right edge, probably caused by a small bubble during firing that may have burst in shipping or when the edge struck something.
