RARE plump split tail black-bellied or golden plover ca 1890-1900 in eclipse plumage by "Fred Nichols". Glass eyes. Struck by 2 or 3 shot. Great overall patina. Wings carved in deep relief and the wing tips rise above the tail. Unpainted area in the middle of the belly has had the paint restored in the original manner by Paul Fortin. The bill is inletted into the face and is either an in use replacement by Nichols or original. One of the rarest and finest Massachusetts shorebird decoys ever crafted. From the same basket as the 4 yellowlegs pictured in a past copy of the American Museum of Folk Art Magazine. Museum quality shorebird. (decoy)

<BR><p>3 - All sales are final except that refunds will be made on lots found to be other than described in this catalog. However, an intention of return must be expressed to the auctioneers within 14 days after you have received your decoy. The decoys need not be returned within 14 days but we must be notified within 14 days of your intention to return them.

<BR><p>4 - The Auctioneers reserve the right to reject any opening bid or bid advance not commensurate with the value of the article being offered.

<BR><p>5 - The Auctioneers reserve the right to withdraw any lot at any time prior to the commencement of bidding for the lot.

<BR><p>6 - Some of the lots are subject to a reserve, which is the confidential minimum price below wich such lot may not be sold. The Auctioneers may implement reserves by bidding on behalf of the consignor.

<BR><p>7 - The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the Auctioneer shall have the sole discretion as to who was the successful bidder or he may re-offer the disputed item at his discretion.

<BR><p>8 - Full payment of each purchaser’s account must be received on the day of the sale. Payment must be made by cash or check, unless other arrangements have been made at least two hours prior to the auction.

Personal checks will be accepted only if the Auctioneers have received a bank authorization guaranteeing funds or other credit references are provided. The Auctioneers reserve the right to hold merchandise purchased by personal check until the check clears the bank, if the Auctioneers regards such action necessary to protect their interests.

<BR><p>10 - All shipping and packaging expense shall be borne by the purchaser. If for any reason a purchased lot cannot be delivered in as good condition as at the time of the sale or should the lot be stolen prior to delivery, the Auctioneers shall not be liable for any amount in excess of that paid by the purchaser.
