RARE ZACHARY TAYLOR RAZOR STROP.
RARE ZACHARY TAYLOR RAZOR STROP. A fabulous display piece we've never seen. An "Old Rough and Ready" razor sharpening block with cardboard cover. Measuring 11" overall with a tapered handle, the four-sided wooden block, 1.5" on each side, is covered with a well-worn leather on three of the sides. On the cardboard box, opposite the legend that proclaims support for the 1848 candidate Zachary Taylor, are the remnants of a label that speak to how to sharpen one's straight-edge razor. Taylor, a distinguished officer in the War of 1812, led the attack on hostile Indians ending the Black Hawk War in 1832. A hero of Rio Grande and cited by Congress for "skill, enterprise and courage" in successes against Mexico after defeating Santa Ana, "Old Rough and Ready" died in office during the heated battle over the Compromise of 1850. A real rarity. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 1:00-2:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002. REGISTER NOW TO BID LIVE ONLINE THE DAY OF THE SALE! (EST 600-800)
