RARE Ruth Moore (Navajo / Dine) Crystal Large Rug
This is an exceptional hand-knotted and hand-spun wool rug from Navajo / Dine artist, Ruth Moore, circa 1970-1980s. The size of the rug is almost 10 foot by 6 foot (118 1/4" x 70 1/2"). The rug is from a museum collection and is accompanied by an original museum tag which is marked, “The Museum Shop Indian Arts Museum of Northern Arizona Flagstaff” on the front and handwritten on the back, “Type: Crystal / Size: 9 ft 10 in. x 6 ft. / Maker: Ruth Moore / No. M365 Price $4,700.00”. $4,700 in 1975 to 1980 would be the equivalent of $26,500 to $17,300 in today's money. For another example of a Ruth Moore rug see the large Navajo Crystal in earth-tones offered for sale in 2007 and 2008 by Altermann Galleries with an estimate of $4,500 to $5,500 (with our example having a similar accompanying tag with museum provenance and that example being attributed but not confirmed). The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction showing hand-spun natural wool that shows an original tag present. The rug features banded and stepped decorations with a traditional pine springs design and all four tassels are present. The overall condition of this rug is good with no obvious signs of damage. The piece has a fine tight weave with both natural, mineral dyes and aniline dyes. This is a collector grade rug with museum provenance. The measurements of this rug are 118 1/4" x 70 1/2".*
