RARE ORIGINAL LUFTWAFFE SHORT WAVE RADIO SIEMENS #K32
The Nazis recognized early on that radio would be the best propaganda tool, since the spoken word was more influential than the written word. When Hitler came into power, Germany's national radio broadcasting system was quickly taken over by the Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. A special department, the Chamber of Radio, was created, and it pushed manufacturers into producing an inexpensive radio that the average person could afford. This way the Ministry could reach more people. The Wehrmacht (Armed Forces) also saw the influence of radio, so commercial radios were provided to some units. This is an example of one of those early radios, that are now ultra rare.
This is a Siemens portable model K32 GWB barracks radio, with long and short wave capabilities. It was manufactured for the Luftwaffe in 1941 or 1942. Although it is not operating, it appears to be complete, with all tubes inside, plus instructions. It has a Super-Heterodyne IF-Frequency of 468khz, 6 AM tuned circuits, moving coil speaker, a permanent magnet dynamic, and ability to be powered by battery or wall outlet.
The cabinet has 3 Luftwaffe eagles with swastikas. It measures 12 1/8" tall, 17 3/4" wide, and 7 1/4" deep. It has a black painted multi-panel hardwood construction, with mortised corner joints, and molded black Bakelite and metal fittings.
The cabinet has nicks and scratches, and parts of the outer layer worn off in places. The latch on the front doors is missing, but you will certainly want to display it with the doors open. The fabric covering the speaker is splotched due to an unsuccessful cleaning attempt, but it is original.
This is highly collectible model for both radio and military collectors.
