"RUSSIAN AND S&W SPECIAL" 1ST GEN SAA REVOLVER WITH FACTORY LETTER.

Cal. 44 Russian & S&W Special. S# 352376. Bbl. 5 1/2" with blade front sight. Mfg. 1931, this rare SAA was manufactured with the rare dual caliber marking "RUSSIAN AND S&W SPECIAL 44" on left side of bbl. "THE 36 CALIBERS OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY" by David M. Brown page 82 states only 506 first gen. SAAs were mfg in 44 S&W Special. Of these 506, it is unknown exactly how many were mfg with this dual caliber marking. Revolver features a blued steel bbl., ejector housing, grip frame & 6 shot fluted cyl. Front left side of trigger guard bow stamped "1" over "VP" proof Case Hardened frame & hammer. Checkered 2 piece hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt logo have matching numbers on inside of each panel. Rear of cyl. stamped with matching "76". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt Archive letter stating the following: Serial Number: 352376 / Caliber: 44 S&W / Barrel Length: 5 1/2" / Finish: Blue / Type of Stocks: Not Listed / Shipped To: H&D Folsom Arms Co. / Address: New York, New York / Date of Shipment: July 21, 1931 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 1" CONDITION: bbl. & ejector rod housing retain 90%+ original blue with light muzzle wear at left side and a few small finish scratches behind ejector rod head. Cyl. retains 85-90% original blue with cyl. dragline, high point wear and scattered light wear. Grip frame retains 80-85% original blue with notable thinning at back strap & toe. Frame & hammer retain 85-90% bright original case colors. All screw heads remain crisp & untouched. Near excellent shiny bore with sharp rifling. Very good plus grips display a few minor handling marks. Grip screw appears replacement as it slightly protrudes at right side. Mechanically excellent with all 4 clicks present. Safety notch does not always hold indicating possible damage to the notch or gear. Overall a very high condition example of a very rare 1st Gen Colt SAA revolver! (25-1597/BH). $8,000-12,000.
