RARE FACTORY ENGRAVED REMINGTON 1875 SA REVOLVER.
Cal. 44 Rem. CF. S# 131. Bbl. 7 1/2". 75% Coverage of New York style engraving likely done in the L.D Nimschke shop. Engraving consists of foliate scroll on lower portions of frame w/ geometric & crosshatch patterns on bolsters, top strap & front bridge. The foliate engraving continues on the sides of breech & muzzle ends of bbl. & cyl. flats w/ the geometric patterns on top of bbl. outlining the E Remington address marking. Additional geometric pattern is found on backstrap, butt & bottom of wedge w/ ribbon of wheat chaff engraving along left side of web ejector housing. Bbl. 7 1/2" w/ blade sight. 6 Shot fluted cyl. Full nickel finish w/ lanyard ring at butt. Original 2 piece ivory grips. Introduced in 1875 & discontinued 1889, the Model 1875 was Remington's answer to the Colt SAA. Estimated quantity of 25,000-30,000, the first 16,000 guns were chambered in Remington's 44 cal. proprietary cartridge. CONDITION: retains 60% nickel finish blending w/ areas of peeling finish & light pitting. Ivory grips show age related checking at butt w/ left side acquiring a yellow patina likely from exposure to sunlight. Bore retains intact rifling showing scattered pitting. Sound mechanics.
