RARE AND IMPORTANT ALEXANDER ROUX WALNUT VICTORIAN SERVER WITH LIFE SIZE DOG CARVINGS
This magnificent server is a near match to the server in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum’s Luce Center for American Art. The server has two tiers with open area between. The top serving shelf is supported by two 20” life size seated hunting dogs. Inset in the back of the open area is a carved 14” doe/deer mount. Framed in a panel with fully carved oak leaves and acorns. The removable crest is pierce carved with grape leaves, grapes and scroll dfesign with a center carving of two hanging grouse. Below the bottom shelf is a carved pierced apron in between two blocked supports, which have floral carving in front. The top apron has floral and fruit carving with a central carving having a frog on a leaf. The top has a carved edge and block shaped top. Alexander Roux worked in New York City and this exemplifies his finest work. SIZE: 49-1/4” h x 48-1/2” maximum width x 24-1/2” maximum depth. CONDITION: Very good with some minor chips and cracks. 9-94400
