Property being sold is not new! Dents, dings, scratches and other damage may be present—and is common—on used and vintage items. Items are available for preview well in advance of the auction and we take several pictures as well. Please inspect thoroughly PRIOR to bidding. Once auctioneer says “SOLD” Buyer assumes all responsibility for items.
Description: Wow! This stunning and unique carved turquoise necklace is one of a kind! The carvings have been strongly attributed to the master Zuni carver, Leekya. Several experts in the field of vintage and antique Native American jewelry have also verified the attribution. The last two pictures are from the famous old C.G. Wallace auction catalog (put out by Sotheby's in the 1970s) which show very similar Leekya carvings in other necklaces from the 1930s. It is a choker style necklace with seven carved turquoise tabs and handmade sterling silver beads. Please note, the turquoise carving just to the left of the center piece is not the original. That piece was broke and subsequently repaired, but the previous owner did not like the repair, so he had a replacement made. However, the original which was repaired is still included (see pictures where the original is sitting beside the replacement). We will convey the original piece along with the necklace. It also conveys in a Riker's shadow box display as pictured. Maker: Leekya Deyuse, (Zuni, 1889-1966) on the turquoise carvings and an unknown silversmith on the silver work. Approx. Age: Circa 1930s. Size: Measures 16" around the neck. Pendant is an additional 1-1/4" wide X 2-1/4" long. Weighs 114.2 g. Condition: Good for its age. Normal wear and minor imperfections expected on used and vintage items and read the description above for other pertinent details. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description. Shipping: There will be a $5 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot. The actual cost of postage will be added on top of that.
