Union brigadier general, a veteran of the Seminole Wars. Chief of staff to General George McClellan during his tenure as commander of the Army of the Potomac, he became McClellan’s father-in-law in 1860. <b>War-date</b> ALS “<i>R. B. Marcy I. G.</i>” as Inspector General, 2pp, 8vo, Washington, Aug. 31, 1861. On Head Quarters, Army of the Potomac letterhead to unidentified Captain. Marcy writes, “<i>The General Comdg. has received your letter...and directs me to reply that he is not in favor of Regimental Organizations for Artillery, but he would be very glad to accept your company.</i>..” Also signed a second time on verso “<i>Marcy, R. B. Insp General</i>” following a postscript, “<i>Should you conclude to come with the service by companies please inform me</i>...” Even toning of left margin, o/w fine.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within seven day
providing that it comes back in the same condition. There is a

expert authenticators acceptable to both parties.
15. The placing of a bid shall constitute acceptance of the
preceding terms and conditions of sale.
