R.T. Ellis and Co. Marked (New York) Percussion Pistol
This is a nice example of a percussion half-stock holster pistol with lock by R.T. Ellis & Co., manufactured in Albany New York, circa 1838 to 1851. The pistol is unique in that was manufactured without a trigger guard. The pistol has a drum and nipple percussion system. It has a heavy rifled octagon barrel with a v-shaped rear sight, small iron front sight blade and a single iron ramrod pipe. The pistol has a simple hickory ramrod. The lock plate and hammer are decorated with simple English style scroll engraving. "R.T. ELLIS &Co." is marked on the lock plate in front of the hammer. The pistol has no other markings. The pin fastened walnut stock is oil-finished with a pewter forend cap, brass side and trigger plate. A unique 19th century American holster pistol.

Very good. The period rebrowned barrel, lock and hammer have a plum brown aged patina. The edges of the barrel are sharp. There is scattered flash pitting around the bolster(under the brown). The markings and engraving on the hammer and lock plate are sharp. The revarnished stock is fine with sharp edges and only minor handling wear. Mechanically fine. A very attractive example of a unique American pistol design.
