R.G. Lester California Silver Parade Saddle
Dazzling, Southern California, black, fully floral carved, sterling silver mounted parade saddle with 5” seat and 20” tapaderos. Maker-marked with a Bohlin-style silver shield, engraved with the name “R.G. Lester, Monrovia, Calif.” Lester is listed in city records as an engraver in the LA area from 1949 to 1951. The saddle skirts, silver capped tapaderos, and massively impressive breast collar with six dangling drops are all completely engulfed with heavy gauge silver plates, and adorned with raised, round Bohlin-style conchos. It features matching accents with gold poppies and silver decorated saddle strings. The round cheek headstall with Bohlinmade and marked concho is attached to a silver mounted Visalia Stock Saddle Co. marked S-Shank Bit. Fine overall condition, circa late 1940s-early 1950s.
