R.F. Stunkard/Whitmore & Wolf Percussion Pennsylvania Rifle
Light engraved lock marked "WHITMORE & WOLF / PITTSBURGH". This marking is lested on page 329 of American Gunsmith by Frank Sellers as being lockmakers (only) from 1837-1852 and later as a company from 1858-1872. Fixed sights on a barrel marked "R F S". Brass furniture, double set triggers, and an attractive/unique brass patch box marked "R F Stunkard".R. Ferguson Stunkard is also listed in Sellers' book on page 298 as working circa 1867 in New Grenada, Pennsylvania. Full length stock with oval overlay engraved with an eagle on the cheekpiece.

Condition: Good. The rifle has a mottled brown patina with some scattered minor spotting. The brass has a mottled aged patina. Stock has a cracked wrist once period repaired and repaired forearm with missing chip, along with a couple large dents and some scratches, but is otherwise good. Mechanically functions.
