R. Bunting & Sons Sheffield Pocket Knife with Family History

Measuring 9 1/2 inches open, with a 4 inch clip point blade and a 2 1/2 inch drop point blade, both showing the 3-line address on the left side of the ricasso and the clip point blade stamped "R.BUNTING & SON" on the left side. The grips are horn with German silver furniture, with spread-wing eagles on the front and a rendering of a man in uniform over "GENL TAYLOR" at the rear. According to an included letter, this knife was the property of Confederate Captain Frank B. Gurley, who served under General Nathan Bedford Forrest and was involved in a raid that resulted in the death of a Union General. Treated as an assassin by Union forces, Gurley was kept in captivity until after the War ended, under constant threat of execution.

Good, with a mixed gray patina on the blades, light spotting and sharpening marks, and mild handling marks overall. Grip panels are very good.
