American artist (1932–2007) who became influential in Britain with figurative and Pop Art paintings that ran against the grain of 1960s and ’70s abstraction; he was influenced by a wide range of art and intellectual sources, including Kafka, Kierkegaard and Walter Benjamin and painters from Titian to Cézanne. ALS signed “Kitaj,” one page on the reverse of a glossy 5.75 x 4 postcard featuring a photo by Brassai, postmarked July 6, 1982. Letter to Peter Howard of Serendipity Books, in full: "Yet another want: The Mark of Cain by Ruth Mellinkoff, U. of Calif. Press 1981. Please send all books very well packed separately and send me a bill." Kitaj writes his address down below and fills out the adjacent address field. In fine condition.
