R Atkinson Fox Framed Print After Maxfield Parrish
For your consideration is this framed print titled, "Love's Paradise" done in the style of Maxfield Parrish, painted by R. Atkinson Fox in 1925 and reproduced by Borin Manufacturing Company in Chicago, Illinois. Robert Atkinson Fox was an American-Canadian illustrator and naturalist painter, best known for his paintings of rural subjects, especially cattle in pastures. Born on December 11, 1860 in Toronto, Canada, Fox studied portraiture under John Wesley Bridgman. He passed away at the age of 75 in 1935. This painting depicts a woman lying beneath a tree while holding a baby up in the air. A Tuscan column in the left third of the print lends a Neoclassical feel to the subject. In effect, the tree and column form a naturalistic frame for the mother and infant. The background includes towering mountains and a blue sky. It is set in a wood frame and sits behind glass to preserve its condition. The frame and print show good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage is noted. The visible print measures 9 5/8" L x 17 5/8" W, while the entire piece measures 11 3/4" L x 19 3/4" W x 1 1/4" D. It weighs 2 pounds and 8 ounces.
