It has been converted into an ashtray and engraved with the R.A.F. emblem, Churchill's famous quote honoring the R.A.F. fighter pilots in the battle of Britain, and provenance stating that this piston head section had been used in a Merlin engine, probably a Spitfire, during the Battle of Britain. Also present is 8" tall cast aluminum bell bearing profiles of Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin, with description stating: "R.A.F. Benevolent Fund Cast in Metal from German Aircraft Shot Down Over Britain 1939-1945". Also included is a bound 1969 history of the fund, and a 1942 newspaper notice. Two pieces, fine.
