One of the most dramatic and enigmatic sculptures from the ancient world is that of the Kouroi (Kouros) from the ancient Etruscan culture. Always shown with a most contented face and sly smile, the Kore (the Etruscan god Aplu, Roman god Apollo) was always shown nude in rigid attention. This fabulous example dates to the 6th century B.C., manufactured of dense clay and decorated with pigment in shades of white and black. 5-1/8"H, in excellent condition with slight loss to chin and tip of nose. Ex-private French Collection. Stunning!
