This is a Victorian era Officer's Home Service pattern helmet adopted in 1878. The skull is cork with 4 blue cloth panels. The plate has an 8 point gilt helmet star topped by the Victorian crown. Gilt acanthus wreath and garter circle wrap the central silver crest of The Royal West Kent Regiment. A silver regimental title banner tops the acanthus wreath. Gilt spike and crossed base. Tudor rose ear bosses suspend a velvet backed gilt chin chain. Gilded metal strip runs down the center of the rear peak. A gilt edge covers the fore peak. Green leather lines the peaks with a red silk drawstring liner and a natural leather sweat band. The inside is ink stamped with the "HAWKES & Co." logo.

Condition: Very good, the outside fabric shows only minor wear. The gilt components are slightly tarnished but have a generally bright appearance. The top spike does not sit flush on the base. The red silk liner has a long tear.
