DS, signed “Victoria R,” one page both sides, 8 x 13, August 20, 1872. Document reads, in part: “Edward Sweeting…expressed unto us…James Clarke…was committed by Thomas William Chester…a Justice of the Peace…to be holden…on a charge of Misdemeanor. That the Prisoner and his friends are desirous of retaining Doctor Kenealy…who may be very useful to the said prisoner on the trial of the said charge.” The seal is intact along with an embossed ten shilling London postmark. Partial separations along fragile horizontal folds, and scattered toning and soiling, otherwise very good condition.
