Partly-printed DS, signed “Victoria R.I.,” one page, 16 x 12, September 3, 1887. Queen Victoria appoints Hugh Chamant Sutton "to be an Officer in Our Land Forces…in the Rank of 2nd Lieutenant." Signed at the head by Queen Victoria and countersigned by Edward Stanhope as Secretary of State for War. The blue seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. Partially linen-backed and in fine condition, with light soiling, and splitting to the ends of the vertical folds.
