This very rare woven bamboo and fir Bride's Basket was used to display the bride's skills. It was woven by the bride to show that she could be worthy of being married. Most of these baskets were contracted out to other people. They were highly decorated and are highly prized today! The family name is still on the basket. These baskets were used when calling on others to bring fruit or candies. The only time that it was left was when it was presented by the future bride to the mother-in-law. It resided in the house and then reverted back to the bride once she was married. This basket is Qing Dynasty Circa 1880-90's and comes from the Fujian Province. The colors in this basket are fabulous with the red and black accented with gold! It measures 11" in height including the handles and is 11.5" wide.
