This framed textile is an official rank badge (buzi) from the Qing Dynasty, representing the 5th rank civil official through the depiction of a silver pheasant. The majestic bird is shown soaring amidst stylized clouds and waves, with the sun motif symbolizing imperial favor and aspiration. The badge is finely embroidered with metallic and silk threads in muted blue, gray, and tan tones. Despite signs of age and wear, the craftsmanship and symbolic motifs remain clearly legible. Such rank badges were sewn onto the surcoats of Qing officials to denote rank and position, offering a tangible link to the administrative culture of imperial China. Now preserved in a black wooden frame, it serves as both a collectible artwork and an educational artifact.
