QING: Xian Feng, 1851-1861, AE 1000 cash, Board of Revenue mint, Peking, H-22.714, 59mm, North branch mint, cast March to August 1854, copper (tóng) color, lovely hand engraved fields and rims with dominoes tile pattern, superb charm made from a coin! VF to EF, ex Jiùjinshan Collection. The earliest mention of dominoes is from the Song Dynasty in China, found in the text Former Events in Wulin. It is speculated that Italian missionaries in China may have brought the game to Europe in the 18th century.
