Museum-quality workmanship for the Manchu aristocracy or higher, the type and design of this large and impressive artifact harkens back to the Liao and Jin ancestry of the QING rulers, when Princes and Princesses had these (with similar designs!) facing them in the front of their saddles. Almost 13" from side-to-side, two 4-claw Dragons confront the Buddhist "precious Jewel" symbol at top center (maniratna in Sanskrit, nor-bu rin-po-che in Tibetan) with flames, floral designs, clouds and two sacred pearls at the lower ends. Nine gemstone additives (the most auspicious number) are partly there and partly gone, and the design details from the hand-punching of the metal are visible on the reverse..all done prior to the gold application. It is a tour-de-force of QING craftsmanship, and the one who commissioned it likely was either a VERY high official or a member of the extended Imperial family. 18th Century or no later than JiaQing (it could be Kangxi also)....Qianlung period being the most likely. An opportunity not to be missed for a serious collection or museum exhibit.
